Abstract

The discovery of the gastropod Campanile, of Middle Eocene age, is analysed. The fossil assemblage was previously assigned to an earlier age due to the relationship to the Roca Formation, but despite of its affinites with the Patagonia Formation fauna. The presence of Campanile confirms an Eocene age; the form is compared with some specia from the Lutetian of the Paris Basin, showing striking similarities with Campanile benecki. Thus, the Arroyo Verde fauna is considered as being of Lutetian age (Middle Eocene).
