CHAROPHYTA DEL MIOCENO SUPERIOR DE LOS VALLES DE SANTA MARÍA Y DE EL CAJÓN, PROVINCIA DE CATAMARCA, ARGENTINA
Abstract
A charophyte assemblage from the Upper Miocene San José Formation (Santa María valley) and the Playa del Zorro alloformation (formerIy El Morterito Formation, in El Cajón Valley) both in Catamarca Province, are described. Three taxa were recognized: Chara strobilocarpa Reid and Groves and Chara ? nov. sp. from Santa María valley, and Croftiella escheri Horn af Rantzien from El Cajón valley. These flora indicate environments with changing salinity, probably fresh to saline, which is consistent with the molluscs, foraminifers and ostracods found and a1so with the sedimentological data.Downloads
