PRIMER HALLAZGO DE GRAPTOLITOS DEL SILURICO (LLANDOVERIANO) EN LA CORDILLERA ORIENTAL, PROVINCIA DE JUJUY ARGENTINA
Abstract
The graptolite assemblage analyzed in this paper occurs in the Chamarra Creek (Jujuy province) at the western flank of the Cordillera Oriental. The species Paraclimacograptus innotatus (Nicholson), Clinoclimacograptus retroversus Bulman and Rickards and Stimulograptus sedgwickii (Portlock) are described for the first time in Northwestern Argentina. The graptolite assemblage suggests a middle Llandovery-middle late Llandovery? age (upper part of the Demirastrites convolutus Zone-Stimulograptus sedgwickii Zone?) for the bearing strala. This graptolite fauna reveals the occurrence of Silurian rocks in the western fIank of the Cordillera Oriental. A probable correlation of these rocks is briefly discussed.Downloads
