TRILOBITES SILURICOS DE LA FORMACION LIPEON EN EL NOROESTE ARGENTINO (SIERRA DE ZAPLA, PROVINCIA DE JUJUY)
Abstract
SILURIAN TRILOBITES FROM THE LIPEON FORMATION. NORTHWESTERN ARGENTINA (SIERRA DE ZAPLA, JUJUY PROVINCE). New trilobites from the Lipeón Formation are here described. They include Flexicalymene? vaccarii n. sp., "Ananaspis" sp., Anacaenaspis sp. and Lichas argentina n. sp. This fauna suggests a late Llandovery-early Wenlock age for the basal levels of the upper member of the unit. An age not younger than Ludlovian for the upper levels of this member is inferred. Paleobiogeographic affinities of the trilobite fauna reflect a large number of cosmopolitan forms. The differences between the trilobite fauna from Precordillera basin and that from Lipeón Formation may be attributed to environmental dissimilarities.Downloads
