BRAQUIOPODOS SILURICOS DE LA FORMACION LIPEON, FLANCO OCCIDENTAL DE LA SIERRA DE ZAPLA, PROVINCIA DE JUJUY, ARGENTINA
Abstract
A study of middle-late Silurian Brachiopods of the Lipeón Formation collected from rocks exposed in the Sierra de Zapla reveals the presence of the following taxa: Heterorthella zaplensis n. sp., Leangella sp., Castellaroina sp., Harringtonina n. sp., Clarkeia ovalis n. sp. and Ancillotoechia cooperensis Amos and Noirat. Four of the six genera have been recorded from contemporaneous rocks of the Precordillera basin (Los Espejos Formation), although none of the species described in this paper are represented in the Precordillera. The striking differences between the benthic faunas of these regions, in part, appear to result from environmental factors.Downloads
