FAUNA Y EDAD DEL ESTRATOTIPO DE LA FORMACION SALAR DEL RINCON (EOPALEOZOICO, PUNA ARGENTINA)
Abstract
Brachiopods and bivalves from the type-section ofthe Salar del Rincón Formation are described and illustrated. The following taxa have been identified: Dalmanella sp., Heterorthella sp., Fardenia sp., Aphanomena? sp., Cryptothyrella cf. crassa, and Modiomorpha n. sp. This association indicates an Early Llandovery age, which agrees with the age assessement by Isaacson et al. (1976),although a Late Ashgill age is also posible. Biogeographically, the presence of the genus Heterorthella suggests affinities with Late Ashgill/Early Llandovery brachiopod faunas of South Africa and Precordillera.Downloads
