VOJNOVSKYA ARGENTINA N. SP. NUEVA GIMNOSPERMA DEL CARBONICO SUPERIOR DE SIERRA DE LOS LLANOS, PROV. LA RIOJA
Abstract
A new member of the genus Vojnovskya, V. argentina is described. The material was found in the Uppermost Carboniferous sediments of the Divisoria Formation in La Rioja Province (Sierra de los Llanos). Several fragments of sterile twigs bearing leaves and one fragment of a strobilar structure bearing probable male sporophylls are known. The genus was so far reported from the Angara palaeofloristic region and it extends now the distribution to the Gondwana area; Vojnovskya is, therefore, another element with a distribution common to both regions. It is suggested that the Vojnavskyaceae may belong to the Cordaitales, as a separate Family, rather than constitute a separate order of Gymnosperms.Downloads
