NOTA SOBRE EL BOSQUE PETRIFICADO DEL CERRO BORORO (TERCIARIO INFERIOR), PROVINCIA DE CHUBUT
Abstract
The finding of a new Petrified Forest is reported; it is located in Chubut Province (Patagonia) and is composed of numerous silicified stumps scattered over an area of several square kilometers; the best specimens attain a length of about 10 m and are 1-2 m thick. The importance of this Forest is given by the presence of numerous Cycadean stems, which can be referred to the family Zamiaceae, and Palmoxylon, as well as other Angiosperms. The sediments containing the petrifactions can be referred to the Salamanca andjor Río Chico stages, which are represented in many areas of the province, and which have been dated in the Paleocene.Downloads
