NANOFOSILES CALCAREOS CENOZOICOS DEL POZO "LAS VIOLETAS 3". ISLA GRANDE DE TIERRA DEL FUEGO. ARGENTINA
Abstract
Nannofossils from the "Las Violetas 3" hole (Austral Basin, Tierra del Fuego Province) were studied in order to assess their biostratigraphic sequence. The following ages were established: Oligocene, late middle and early Eocene, and late Paleocene. Early Paleocene forms (Danian) were not detected. Nannofossil associations and geological formations were correlated. Best ecologic conditions for the developmet of calcareous nannofossils were attained during the early Eocene-Late Paleocene. Low water temperature was indicated by the presence of a cold-temperate species association. The Mesozoic-Cenozoic boundary was established on the basis of the biostratigraphic data retrieved.Downloads
