NUEVA TORTUGA (CRYPTODIRA: THALASSEMYDIDAE) DE LA FORMACION VACA MUERTA (JURASICO, TITHONIANO) DE LA PROVINCIA DEL NEUQUEN, ARGENTINA
Abstract
A new jurassic turtle from the Vaca Muerta Formation (Tithonian), Cerro Lotena, Neuquén province, Argentina is described. This species is tentatively referred to the genus Eurysternum Meyer and represents the first record of the family Thalassemydidae in the Westem Hemisphere. A comparison of this taxon with Notoemys laticentralis Cattoi and Freiberg and other european Thalassemydidae and Plesiochelyidae taxa from the Upper Jurassic of Europe was made. Likewise the probable factors that made possible the distribution of these turtles in Europe and South America in the Upper Jurassic were analyzed.Downloads
