UN FOSIL ENIGMATICO DEL CAMBRICO INFERIOR DE ARGENTINA
Abstract
A peculiar tube like fossil described here as Cloudina? borrelloi n. sp. has been found in the lower Cambrian deposits of San Juan, Argentina, associated with the trilobite Fremontella. Specimens superficially resemble Salterella, but lack inner deposits, grow from a thickened base rather than from a point, and have a laminated wall. They show some similaritv to Cloudina Germs from South West Africa, but the wall is thinner in Cloudina? borrelloi. Because the significance of the differences is not well understood, the species is assigned to Cloudina with question. No higher biological classification is now possible; this form may belong to an extinct group of "worms". In addition, this work has a geological description of San Juan Early Cambriam's place, and other antecedents.Downloads
