Abstract

New remai?ns of the Huayquerian (Middle Pliocene) Scelidotheriinae Elas- sotherium altiroctre Cabrera, 1939 are described. The author demonstrates that the holotype i?s a young specimen and more complete diagnosis with the new remaim is proposed. The origin and evolution of the Scelidotheriinae so far known are discussed. Th.is confirrn the supposed origin of the Plio-Pleistocene Iorms iron- the small species of Santacrucian Age. Finally the status of some genera and species are analyzed, proposi?ng nsw generic and speci?fic combinations.
