Ameghiniana - News on editorial process
2022-07-05
Dear Author,
During 2020 and 2021, times marked by pandemics, we developed several changes to improve the editorial process. Our top priorities are academic excellence, speeding up editorial times and making submissions easier for our authors.
- Scientific editorial team: a partial renewal of the group of scientific editors was carried out considering both the previous gender disparity and academic excellence. With the addition of ten new editors, the disparity has decreased substantially.
- Production editorial team: production's tasks have been divided into two stages, an initial revision of text and figure format and a final one comprising the copyediting once the manuscripts have been accepted for publication, speeding up editorial times.
- Type of submissions: only “articles” are accepted, regardless of their length, and the so-called “Paleontological Notes” have been suppressed. This change is based partly on an analysis of the journal's citations; longer papers receive, on average, a greater number of citations than short papers.
- Simplified editorial guidelines: our guidelines have been updated, reduced and divided into text organization and style and instructions for figures. A word template for articles is also available.
- Digital copyright form: a new copyright form has been established that is completed and submitted digitally. This new form complies with the editorial policies based on Romeo Sherpa and incorporates heritage protection issues.
- Waiver of printing costs: longer manuscripts will be accepted without printing costs for authors, up to 35 printed pages in the final edited galley. Ameghiniana is looking forward to attracting longer manuscripts that, in turn, have been shown to receive more cites.
Editorial times and publicity
- Postprints posted online first: Ameghiniana posts PDFs of the uncorrected accepted manuscripts in a typeset form (i.e., postprints) a few days after their acceptance in the Future Issues section. These posted versions include DOI and are citable.
- Distribution and publicity via BIOONE: Ameghiniana is included in BioOne Complete, a non-profit database of more than 200 subscribed and open-access titles in the biological, ecological, and environmental sciences, ensuring ample distribution and publicity of Ameghiniana articles.
We are looking forward to receiving your submission!
