Abstract

The following species are described and figured: Botrychiopsis plantiana, B. weissiana (both found together for the first time in Argentina), Cordaites riojanus and Krauselcladus argentinus, n. sp. This taphoflora contains as welJ Ginkgophyllum diazii (described previously) and smalJ lycopod stems to be presented elsewhere. The absence of Rhacopteris ovata and Sphenopsida differenciate this taphoflora from those found in the Tupe and other related formations. It is suggested that this assemblage may represent a different ecofacies, of possible upland position, which can be correlated with the assemblage found in the Malanzán Formation (La Rioja Province). The age is possibly Upper Carboniferous (Trampeaderense of the local stratigraphic scale). However, a late middle Carboniferous age is also possible.
